Corona Icon Challenge

Hello
I am looking to replace the Corona 11 pool ball icon with something more exciting and more interesting than a pool ball.
I want the new icon to be less "gamey" and more Corona'esque and be able to stand out in the Mac icon tray bar. Recognizable from a distance, says "Corona" but not gamey.
Think of a tool for your "mobile game development".
Winner gets a year subscription of PRO of Corona or an extension to their subscription (and upgrade to PRO if indie user).
Submit icons here in png format. Once I pick an icon, we will do the high res in photoshop and transfer the rights.
Enter as many icons as you want.
Deadline for submission April 20th. I will pick an Icon by April 30th.

Hi this looks like a fun challange, I just have one question:
I guess you don't want something based on the logo under your name, as that is more a logo for Ansca itself and not Corona, right?

here is my idea :)
All the icons are also at 512x512, ready to publish :)
The idea behind the first is that you are "laying", "hatching", breeding" apps (so it's fast), and your app can be your golden egg :) I k now i used the ansca logo, but now, without a logo specificaly for corona, that's the visual association with corona sdk for me (so it will be good to make something similar for corona, hmmm...? ;))
The second one is more "straightforward": you are coding on your computer, for smartfones/tablets.

well, as i said before, the logo in the icon is the ansca one...
so i've made a logo for corona :)
it's in the same style as the ansca one, but the round represents something similar to a limon slice, because everytime i think about corona, i want to drink one, with a lime slice in it :D
So here you are, the updated icons and a shiny new corona logo:

PS - Okay, I didn't think they were boats, but I didn't think they were seeds, either. Kinda thought it was just a decorative braid.

Yeah those look really great, I would love to have that icon on my Dock. It sounds like you should try redoing them in a cotton seed pod, although that wouldn't have such vibrant color.

I like your third row of icons, and cl-apps' icon. You probably don't want the icons to be specific to Apple devices, since Corona isn't.
Maybe get rid of the shine so it looks like a cut-open seed pod instead of a glass ball?

These designs all take inspiration from the cycle of a solar eclipse. We tried to capture the relationship between the moon (luna) and the sun, and the motion between the two while a solar corona is created.
There are a few variations of each which can be tweaked if needed. All designs stand out well on the dock and are focused on "Corona" over gaming, while complimenting the circular design of the Ansca logo.
White Hot Icon:
White center and unusual shape based on the rays of a corona.
Eclipse:
Bright colors and layered shapes showing on the rotation of the sun and moon.
Sun Moon:
Simple pattern effect based on the interaction of the sun and moon.
Sunny C:
Bold lines and colors showing on the rays of the sun to create a corona and the letter C of corona.

@pixelEnvisio, your art is great, but the Pink Coloured cotton seeds and the hammer through the seeds are a bit displacing. At first glance they can be a bit controversial... The one in the middle with the white background is therefore the best.

Also tried to put grid of app icons (appwall) behind the seeds.. big version looks good but effect is gone at the icon size. so dropped it in favor of the following.

I'm surprised Ansca doesn't seem to have any designers on staff - I've been seeing some ads around the web and no offence but they are pretty terrible. I love Corona but I think to connect with the demographic you are looking at for clients (designers not necessarily programmers) you have to work up your image a bit - maybe look at hiring a design firm?

Despite having an entry in the challenge, I would like to say that I think the Corona brand/icon/logo/website can really benefit from a unifying design vision. I think Corona is a great product, and has already distinguished itself for ease of use. I love designing, so I might just be biased, but IMHO refining the branding, design, and UI would be a knockout punch. If this means cancelling the icon challenge, I'm all for it. I'd happily give up the chance to win a free year's subscription for the knowledge that Corona will continue to be around so I don't have to learn anymore Obj-C (I tried, and I hated it :P)
