Video playback should now work from any valid local or remote path, but the bigger issue in this specific case would be doing a large file download (it might block other activity for awhile, and also most video sources will probably attempt to stream the file rather than allowing a raw download). But if you've got the file somewhere accessible to the app, playing it shouldn't be a problem.
